The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is organising hundreds of local activities every year, striving to raise awareness about environmental sustainability among international students and engaging them in volunteering activities. In order to increase our efforts and strengthen ESN's involvement in the field, we have decided to join forces with other youth organisations and advocate for a more environmentally sustainable world.
Therefore, ESN is now part of the Generation Climate Europe (GCE) coalition, the first climate coalition of European youth-led NGOs, empowering young people and tackling all aspects of the climate crisis. They work to ensure that the EU always recognises and promotes the interests of young people in Europe. apart from ESN, the coalition consists of the following youth organisations: AEGEE, European Students' Union, OBESSU, Youth and Environment Europe, FIMCAP, CLIMATES and International Young Naturefriends.
Through our involvement in the coalition, we aim to increase the knowledge and capacity in the policy area related to environmental and climate issues which later on we plan to turn into concrete actions. In ESN International we are committed to continue working in the field of environmental sustainability and meet the increased interest of the Erasmus generation by developing new initiatives and providing further support and guidance. In the given time, we will survey the current behaviour of students and launch a dedicated European-wide campaign.
"International students are continuously looking to find more environmentally sustainable ways to take part in their mobility, and ESN's goal is to empower young people in making sustainable choices to decrease the environmental impact of student mobility." Wim Gabriels, Project and Policy Officer of the Erasmus Student Network.
Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is the biggest student association in Europe. Present at over 1000 Higher Education Institutions, it unites over 520 local associations in 41 countries. More than 15,000 volunteers take care of international colleagues under the motto “Students helping students”.
