More than 250,000 Erasmus students could benefit from the protection offered under the policy, which covers medical repatriation, hospital accompaniment and medical expenses in the event of illness or accident

MAPFRE and the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) have signed a travel insurance distribution agreement aimed at European Erasmus students, through its subsidiary MAPFRE ASSISTANCE. This solution comes on the back of rising demand from students for such coverage, and up to 250,000 students can now avail of this insurance, giving them peace of mind so that they can get the most out of their Erasmus experience.

The product can be purchased in 18 European countries (Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania and Sweden) as of July 2015 and will gradually be extended to other countries over the course of 2015.

MAPFRE ASSISTANCE will use its online travel insurance platform InsureandGo to offer students which includes medical assistance, repatriation in case of accident, a relative’s travel and accommodation costs if the insured is hospitalized, baggage recovery and a host of other features that make it the ideal solution for today’s Erasmus globetrotters.

The new insurance on offer provides students with multilingual telephone assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, as well as guidance and medical advice for any type of query. Students who take out this insurance will also be covered for the theft of personal items such as cell phones and laptops.
