We are living in a digital society. With the fast development of technology, it is increasingly important to equip young people with the necessary tools to access, analyse and evaluate information, so they can have a better understanding of the world around them.

In cooperation with the Council of Europe and the European Youth Foundation, ESN is launching a training program on Media Literacy for its volunteers. The goal is to develop both the media literacy and the facilitating skills of the participants, so they can share what they learned among their local and international colleagues.

During a Kick-off meeting on 16th and 17th of January the representatives of the training and communication teams - ESN Eduk8 and ESN Communication Committee have met to learn more about the topic and sketch a roadmap for the upcoming year.

The program will be divided into 3 main steps:

  1. The Media ABC - basic training for facilitators where participants will develop their knowledge and create activities on the topic of Media Literacy;

  2. The Local Phase – during which all our volunteers will have the opportunity to deliver those activities and across Europe;

  3. The Media XYZ – an advanced training for facilitators, where participants will explore new and more complex non-formal education methods.

These three steps will be followed by a meeting, where the activities created during the Media ABC and additional resources will be compiled into a toolkit. This toolkit will be available to everyone across our network and beyond, so our volunteers can act towards improving the media literacy of their peers and their local communities.
