
This September, the Erasmus Student Network will participate in the 35th Annual EAIE Conference in Gothenburg, under the theme “GO-create”. The theme encourages collaboration, cooperation, and co-creation, offering the perfect backdrop to explore how international education can drive social, economic, and educational impact.
ESN colleagues will be actively involved throughout the conference, contributing to sessions that highlight the value of student mobility, community engagement, and evidence-based research.
We are excited to bring our perspectives to the conference through sessions and posters on topics such as community engagement in higher education, the economic impact of student mobility, aligning education and employment policies for international graduates, sustainability in student mobility, and the latest insights from the XV ESNsurvey on mobility trends:
- Spotlight Session on European Funded Programmes - Session 2.01 - Wednesday 10th Sept 09:00-10:30 CEST Spotlight Session;
Simone Lepore (ESN), Andreas Winkler (TU Darmstadt), Alenka Flander (CMEPIUS), and Susanne Conze (European Commission) will discuss the next generation of the Erasmus+ programme (2028–2034) and its impact on international higher education, exploring opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and global engagement.
- Go Green! A sustainability campaign for mobile students - Poster 301 - Thursday 11th Sept 10:30-12:00 CEST Poster;
Neli Kalinova-Schmieder (ESN) and Salome Dermati (EUF) will showcase online campaigns that engage students and encourage greener travel to their mobility destinations.
- XV ESNsurvey: Navigating the key findings for the future of student mobility - Poster 328 - Thursday 11th Sept 10:30-12:00 CEST Poster;
Simone Lepore (ESN) will present key findings from the XV ESNsurvey, highlighting 15 essential factors for the future of student mobility and sharing students’ perspectives on improving Erasmus+.
- Aligning education and employment policies to create success for international graduates in Europe - Session 6.05 - Thursday 11th Sept 11:30-12:00 CEST Roundtable Session;
Wim Gabriels (ESN), Adriana Perez Encinas (UAM), and Johannes Gehringer (DG EAC) will explore strategies to better align education and employment policies, ensuring international graduates can thrive professionally and contribute effectively to local labour markets.
- Keeping higher education relevant: Maximising impact through service learning - Session 9.02 - Friday 12th Sept 09:00-10:00 CEST Roundtable Session;
Neli Kalinova-Schmieder (ESN), Arnim Heinemann (Universität Bayreuth), and Naveed Syed (ENHANCE Alliance) explore how universities can remain relevant through service learning and community-engaged teaching, fostering experiential learning, civic engagement, and global perspectives for students.
- The economic impact of incoming Erasmus+ students: A comparative outlook from five countries - Session 9.10 - Friday 12th Sept 09:00-10:00 CEST Roundtable Session;
Wim Gabriels (ESN), Katarina Bilonic (Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes, Croatia), and Veronika Kupriyanova (ACA) will present the first comparative study of Erasmus+ students’ economic impact across five countries, highlighting how mobility contributes to local economies and informing stakeholders’ decisions.
